Ministry Center in Brooklyn

A cross-cultural experience without a passport, Brooklyn is home to Jewish people with roots from across the globe. Immanuel House is home to Life in Messiah’s ministry and training center in Brooklyn, New York. Just blocks from a large Jewish community, it is a place where new staff members (both short and long term) can receive valuable training. Those interested in ministering to Jewish friends can find resources here. And Jewish friends who are inquisitive about Yeshua can find answers through Bible studies and spiritual conversations.

Let Life in Messiah’s ministry center host your short-term missions team in Brooklyn, home to the second-largest Jewish population in the world.

We will work with you to customize your experience to meet the specific needs of your group.

Our goal is for your team to be part of what God is doing in Brooklyn. Your group will learn about Jewish ministry through Life in Messiah, both in Brooklyn and around the world. With ministry staff living in the building, you’ll have a great opportunity to learn about Jewish culture and outreach.

Ministry teams will have training in Jewish outreach, and then have the opportunity to put their training into practice in a nearby Jewish neighborhood.

We have opportunities for trips that are exclusively ministry oriented as well as combination work/ministry trips. We offer a variety of skill and funding levels.

Some specifics:

Housing: Teams stay in the ministry center building on Flatbush Avenue. Ministry teams pay a cost recovery fee to help defray our expenses (based on number of people and length of stay). Work teams do not pay cost recovery fees, but do provide project materials.

Foods: Teams are responsible to provide and prepare their meals. A full kitchen is available.

Length of trip: This is determined by the building schedule and the needs of the team. Most trips are 5-7 days.

If a work trip is what you’re seeking, the remaining work projects include:

  • A deep cleaning for the 10,800 square foot building including 40 windows. Your team can help make Immanuel House sparkle and provide a welcoming presence to the neighborhood.
  • Prep and painting projects will give a new look to concrete floors and wrought iron fencing.
  • A number of small carpentry projects.
  • Installation of audiovisual system in sanctuary.
  • These projects run from $50 to $1,500.

For work teams:  Our goal is for you to leave feeling like you participated in a work God is doing, not simply doing work.

Major projects needing sponsorship are:

  • Fire Alarm System upgrade – The current system is functional, but no longer supported. An upgrade is approximately $40,000.
  • Air handler replacement – There are nine air handlers, seven of which need replaced at approximately $9,000 each.
  • Parking area concrete replacement – Estimated at $12,000.

Recreation: This is an important part of every trip. We don’t lead your “fun days,” but we can help you plan them. Most teams spend at least one day seeing the sights of New York City. Some teams want to visit the Brooklyn Tabernacle and hear their choir. We recommend visiting the Tab on Tuesday nights for their evening prayer service. There are other NYC churches to visit such as Redeemer Presbyterian (Tim Keller), Calvary Baptist (David Epstein) and Times Square Church (David Wilkerson).

I hope this provides enough information for us to begin the discussion that will provide your group with a meaningful missions trip to Brooklyn.
