He Has Become My Salvation

When the Son of God came as the redeemer to bring salvation for those who would believe in Him, He bore the name of what He would bring, salvation!

The Hebrew Bible (also known as the Old Testament) is divided into three parts: the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings. It is also referred to as the Tanakh, an acronym for these three sections (TNK)

T – Torah (Law or instruction)
N – Nevi’im (Prophets)
K – Ketuvim (Writings)

Some years ago, while studying the Scriptures, I found something I thought was wonderful regarding our Messiah Jesus, whose Hebrew name is Yeshua, which means salvation. In the New Testament book of Matthew, we read of Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, being told by an angel of the Lord of the miraculous birth which would occur with the woman he was betrothed to, Mary. The angel informed him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife for her pregnancy was supernatural and the child she carried was conceived of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18-20).

The angel also told him, “You shall call His name, Jesus” (Yeshua). Then the reason is given for naming the child salvation: “for He will save His people from their sins.”

What a God we have who came to save His people from their sins! The discovery I found was this: three times in the Hebrew Bible we are told “God has become my salvation,” once in the Law, once in the Prophets, and once in the Writings.

The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
This is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.

– Exodus 15:2 (Torah)

Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;
For the Lord God is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation
.”
– Isaiah 12:1-2 (Prophets

The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation.

– Psalm 118 :14 (Writings)

Yes, the Scriptures testify to us that God is our Savior, the Holy One of Israel, who came as the Son of God, and He embodied the name Salvation, as the prophet Isaiah wrote:

Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth:
Say to the daughter of Zion, “Behold, your salvation is coming;
Behold His reward is with Him, and His compensation before Him”
(Isaiah 62:11).

Indeed, He has become our salvation.

  1. If you have never read the many Scriptures in the Tanakh which speak of the identity of Israel’s Messiah, who He is, and how He would bring salvation, please contact us.

  2. Did you know that the Old Testament and the Tanakh, though they contain the same books, are in different order? The Old Testament ends with the book of Malachi. Guess what book the Tanakh ends with?

  3. When you are excited to find fresh insights in God’s Word, with whom do you share them? Consider sharing them as a conversational bridge with someone who perhaps does not yet see the practical benefit of Scripture for daily living.
